Read MoreThe View From Kala Patthar
This is a panoramic HDR image of the view from the peak of Kala Patthar.
Kala Patthar sits at an elevation of 18,514 ft and climbing to this point was very tiring and seems to take bout 3 times longer than is would at a more normal elevation.
If you look closely, you may be able to see some of the yellow and orange tents 916 feet below that were making up Everest Base Camp somewhat past the prime climbing season.
My wife was feeling sick with what later developed into a mild case of HAPE and stayed back at Gorek Shep camp while our guide and I made the trek up to this viewpoint. The view was stunning and really makes you feel small.
To get a sense of scale, If you follow the prayer flags from left to right and then follow the line of the muddy lake up a little bit, you can see what look to be orange dots. Those dots are actually rather large tents that hold 4 - 12+ people. Hope that helps put the grand scale of this amazing place in perspective.
